THE Rock Ferry High School Year 11 football team, after a difficult trip to Northumberland, have progressed to the semi-finals of the RAF Schools' Cup with a 1-0 win over Blythe Community College.
A victory in the semi-finals next Thursday (March 13) would see the school create history in becoming the first Wirral school team to reach an English Schools' FA National Cup final.
The team are undefeated this year and hungry for a cup treble after winning the Wirral Senior Cup in 2007 and reaching the final of the Merseyside Cup 2008.
Meanwhile, another Merseyside school – this time a girls team – has also made it through to the last four.
Archbishop Beck Sports College from Walton, Liverpool, beat Nelson Tomlinson School from Wigton, Cumbria, in a thrilling quarter-final on Wednesday night 7-6 on penalties, after the match finished 2-2 after extra time.
More than 50,000 students compete in the RAF Schools Cup, with Rock Ferry now aiming for a place in the finals at the City of Manchester Stadium on April 28 – just days before the UEFA Cup final at the stadium.
