Cheshire members help Tigers start with win

WEST CHESHIRE AC members provided a sting in the tail to an impress-ive result at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port.

Rachel Stoakley, Sam Galley, Bryony Potter and Sian Kelman combined to earn Cheshire Tigers a 51.1 seconds sprint relay victory at the opening round of the National Under-20s Junior League Mersey Division match.

The quartet were then backed up by a commanding 4x400m performance of four minutes 18.5 seconds from Rebecca Grimes, Ruth Pritchard, Emily Done, and Shona Valentine.

Other victories from West Cheshire AC members were recorded by athlete of the match, Lauren Hunt, who hit 36.67m in the discus and 9.65m in the shot; Ruth Pritchard (400m hurdles), Emily Fisher (33.77m) and Rebecca Grimes (20.91m) in the javelin.

Rachel Stoakley won her B 100m, and Bryony Potter won the B 200m, while Emily Done won the B 400m, and Olivia Beaney posted success in the B 800m. West Cheshire AC men representing Cheshire Tigers included Lewis Emmitt (12.0 in the 100m and 24.8 in the 200m), Alex Haswell (53.9) and Aidan Stoakley (55.8) in the 400m.

Alan Littler finished third in his B 1500m and third in the hammer, and Tom Booth posted 63.5 in his 400m hurdles.

Mike Lyness (1.75m) and Alan Littler (1.50m) finished second in the A and B high jump competitions, while Tom Booth (2.30m for second place), and Mike Lyness (2m for first B) pocketed points from the pole vault.

The quartet of Littler, Stoakley, Liam Dyer and Liam Clowes earned Tigers second place with 49.8sec in the sprint relay.

West Cheshire AC start their Northern Seniors Track and Field League campaign this Saturday at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port, and the club open their National Young Athletes League Northern Premier Division League season on Sunday, at Witton Park, Blackburn.

West Cheshire AC have arranged transport for the trip and those wanting to travel should book their seats as soon as possible with club officials.
