LIVERPOOL’S Martin Stamper narrowly missed selection for Great Britain’s Taekwondo squad set for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Stamper, 22, cruelly missed the cut as his weight category was not one of those selected to compete.
Team GB had just four places up for grabs and therefore had a difficult decision of picking which four athletes, out of a 16, gave them the best chances of medal success and despite winning European silver in the -62 kg category Martin was not selected.
He said yesterday: “I am truly disappointed as the situation was really out of my hands. Coming this close though, has increased my determination to get to the Olympic Games and I am going to throw myself straight back into training and set my sights on a new short-term goal of the forthcoming British International in Manchester this September.”
