West Cheshire’s McKay celebrates triple success

DAVE McKAY has powered his way to a hat-trick of victories.

The Cheshire Men’s County Javelin champion played a key role in helping West Cheshire AC secure third position in the second round of the Northern Track and Field League held at Wavertree, Liverpool.

He nailed an impressive winning throw of 61.88m in the javelin, and added further maximum points from the shot (12.50m), and the 110m hurdles (18.2 seconds). Dave was joined in the winners’ circle by Merseyside County 800m champion, Alex Haswell, who rounded the two laps at Wavertree in a time of 2:00.1.

Northern Championship medallist, Michael Lyness, won the B 400m hurdles in 65.9 seconds, and the B pole vault with a clearance of 2-90m, while Andrew Gore launched himself to success in the B javelin (44.57m).

Nicola Gore spearheaded the charge from the ladies squad with a double success story.

The Cheshire county champion delivered a winning put of 10.96m in the shot and spun the discus to a top mark of 37.89m, and added second spot in the hammer (32.24m).

Sam Galley blasted her way to victory in the B 100m (13.0 seconds), while Rebecca Grimes negotiated the B 400m hurdles in 77.1 seconds for success.

Emily Clarke delivered a winning B long jump of 5.01m alongside club colleague Sian Kelman who finished second with 5.39m.

Match Result: 1 Preston 369 points; 2 Liverpool Pembroke Sefton 361; 3 West Cheshire 352.5; 4 Southport Waterloo 312.5; 5 Lancaster and Morecambe & Kendal 299; 6 Seaton 265.

Meanwhile, Carl Van Schie secured second place in the North of England Combined Events Championship and 15th position in England at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

His scores were: 100m – 11.34pb; Long Jump – 6.29m; Shot – 10.44m; High Jump – 1-79pb; 400m – 51.29; 110mH – 17.61; Discus – 34.85m; Pole Vault – 3-35m; Javelin – 42.05m; 1500m – 4:46.52; 6,002 points.

Fixtures this weekend include the Cheshire County Schools Track and Field Championships, at Macclesfield, on Saturday, and the Northern Junior and Senior Track and Field Championships at Sportscity, Manchester, on Saturday and Sunday.
