NATHAN HILTON (LPS) won the National Junior League 400m at Wavertree in 49.5 seconds to earn the male athlete of the match award.
Club-mate Harry Doran took the 200m and there was a triple success for Tony West in the shot putt (9.17m), hammer (37.69m) and Javelin (39.35m).
Charlotte Christian threw the hammer 34.34m, Rachel Hutchinson managing three B string firsts hammer (32.25m), javelin(14.77m) and shot (7.94m) as LPS finished fourth on the day, although the club is pondering whether to pull out of the League in 2009.
SouthportWaterloo are also considering their position after scoring less than 100 points with four athletes and five officials. The club’s sole female competitor, Rachel Everett, won the shot putt with 9.39m.
Jordan Kelly was equal first in the high jump (1.55) and third in the triple jump (12.34). Harry Boyd won the 800m race in 2:05.3 while David Gough made his debut as a steeplechaser finishing third in 7.33.3.
Samantha Fraser set new club junior records for St Helens-Sutton in the shot putt (9.09m) and high jump (1.56m), Amyrose Talbot won the 1500 (4.53.2), Thaddeus Anim Somuah took the 100m in 11.6 while Steve Clague was the steeplechase winner in 7.26.4.
Clare Jones (Wirral) threw the javelin for the Bebington outfit who, like St Helens-Sutton, remain committed to the League.
The composite teams from North Wales and Cheshire Tigers continue to dominate while LPS, Wirral, St Helens-Sutton and SouthportWaterloo follow in that order.
At Bebington, Katarina Thompson set a new ESAA record in the pentathlon as she and Sophie Bell-Morgan were first and second in the Intermediate age group, combining with Lydia Morley for the team prize and a place in the National Schools’ event final in September.
Mike Sweeney won the Senior Boys’ title while Sophie Rigby acquitted herself well by finishing 14th in the junior pentathlon as Merseyside’s only representative.
Liane Bibby (St Helens-Sutton) guested at the Mid Lancs League event at Bolton throwing the javelin over 29 metres for victory.
For SouthportWaterloo Sally Wareing had three wins 200m (28.3), high jump (1.38) and 800m (2:30.6), Stephanie James was third in the senior women’s 400 (63.8) while the men’s team consisted of Carlos Irizar and Peter Miles.
This weekend sees the penultimate round of the Northern Track and Field League with West Cheshire, Liverpool, LPS and Southport-Waterloo travelling to Carlisle. St Helens-Sutton are at Halifax while Wirral travel to Leigh and Warrington are at Stretford.
