LIVERPOOL Harriers were dethroned as League champions of the North West Premier Division of the Young Athletes League when they were beaten on home turf at Wavertree by Sale Harriers.
Although no individual results have been published, the team finished 67 points behind the Mancunians who completed the season undefeated, winning the title by a single league point, despite having scored less individual match points than their Liverpool rivals.
Wirral AC overcame their poor start to the season to consolidate their position in the Premier League with third place at Wigan. Sid Srinivas won the short and long hurdles, Ben Costello the steeplechase and Kris Lewis the high jump.
For the girls Eleanor Meehan was placed second in the discus, shot and javelin, Natalie Fields taking maximum points in the B shot and javelin events.
For LPS there were middle distance wins by Sean Dignam, Mike Bride, Jake Helm, Toby Loveridge, John Meakin and Chris Hesketh. Michael Carmona Jones won the discus (30.14) and Billy Williams the High Jump(1.81).
Jessica Broady (hammer 29.35) and Faye Atkins (high jump 1.55) also scored winning points.
Sally Wareing (SouthportWaterloo) set new club records winning the under-13s 75 in 10.4 and putting the shot 7.77, both performances replacing records which had stood since 2000. The Sandgrounders were third and remain in the Premier division.
In division one St Helens-Sutton produced an excellent performance to finish second to Team North Cumbria and ahead of both Manx and Altrincham. John Ashcroft set a new club record in the 400m hurdles (63.5), a personal best (1.60) in the high jump and anchored the 4x400 team to victory.
There was a rare double in the hurdles by TT Caton-Hand and Luke McDonald.
For the girls throwers Lucy Croft (hammer), Kathryn Sumner (shot), Samantha Fraser (javelin), Liane Bibby (javelin) and Patricia Sparks (shot) were in winning form across the age groups. Saints must now wait until the final results have been submitted before they know their position in the division.
