Baddeley and Halsall progress

OLYMPICS: There was further success for the region’s athletes in Beijing yesterday as Francesca Halsall and Andy Baddeley progressed.

In the 1,500m Britain’s Andy Baddeley eased through to the semi-finals with a well-judged third.

The 26-year-old’s chances of a medal have been talked up by Sebastian Coe with Baddeley saying: “There is a long way to go. I’m treating that as the next final.”

Meanwhile Southport’s Halsall reached the 50m freestyle semi-finals, before both competing in the women’s 4x100m medley relay teams who progressed to the finals in the Water Cube.
