DAVID PRICE vowed to return to the Olympics in London in 2012 – but yesterday’s defeat might force him to take up synchronised swimming instead.
The Liverpool super-heavyweight failed to get to the final when he was outclassed by Italian world champion Roberto Cammarelle, who led 9-0 when he stopped Price with 50 seconds left in round two.
Price had to settle for a bronze medal but was pleased with his overall performance in Beijing.
He said: “No-one can take my medal away from me and it’s been a fantastic journey up until today.
“I’ll sit down and have a think about what to do next. I might return in 2012 – but it might be in synchronised swimming after that.”
James Degale did make his final to sea the British team’s finest performance at the Games for over half a century.
MIddleweight Degale stormed to a 10-3 victory over Ireland’s Darren Sutherland.
Elsewhere, Britain secured its 18th gold medal of the Games when 1,000metre kayak single champion Tim Brabants added the Olympic title to his haul.
