NEW BRIGHTON have again added to their squad as they try to turn around a poor start to the season in North Two West League.
Latest arrivals are scrum-half Sean Ingram from Birkenhead Park and two utility backs Tuliva Demanitanu and Waisale Navunidakua who are both stationed with the 1st Royal Welsh Regiment at Chester and link up with two others who signed in at Hartsfield a few weeks ago.
Also on a bright note the Blues report Mike Gallimore back in light training after he sustained a leg break late last season.
Meanwhile the Blues continue to reflect on a game which got away last Saturday at Broughton Park. A 24-7 interval lead was transformed into a 40-27 defeat as several tries were gifted to the opposition.
“I can’t believe we lost that game. We were streets ahead of them and then just shut down,” moaned head coach Steve Dorrington.
On the credit side there was a big improvement in discipline with only seven penalties conceded.
“But you can’t win a game if you gift the opposition tries – four on this occasion,” added Dorrington.
Greg Hughes, Lotu and Marcus Coast crossed for Brighton. Stephen Dean landed the three conversions and a brace of penalties but a third successive defeat was hard to swallow.
It is a must-win situation on Saturday when Blackburn come to the Wirral ground.
New Brighton are drawn against Chester in the first stage of the Cheshire Cup at Birkenhead Park on Tuesday, October 14, 8pm.
