Hall on the mark to end flying start

THIS WAS a fine North One victory for Birkenhead at a windy Scatcherd Lane.

They were made to work very hard by the previously unbeaten Yorkshire outfit.

Indeed it seemed they had let success slip from their grasp late on when poor play allowed Morley in for their second try, but Dave Hall came to the rescue with a superb 35 metres penalty in added time.

Park still had to endure a further five minutes but held on well for their third win in four outings.

Hall struck an early penalty for Park, but Craig Field stole possession for Morley and raced clear from halfway for a try converted by Simon Bradshaw.

In the last minute of the first period Njike Tchakoute forced his way over from a quickly taken tap penalty to earn a single point interval advantage.

Two Hall penalties stretched the lead but Bradshaw put over a kick for Morley on 67 minutes and it was game on again.

It looked like curtains for the visitors when they gifted a try to Kobi Gijast in the 75th minute but they lack nothing in spirit and determination and the trusty boot of Hall won the day.

Stand-in Dave Ibbotson, Ashley Oliver and Tchakoute formed an excellent back-row for Park, although Oliver was forced off through injury in the second period.

Jamie Johnstone proved an able deputy and the other subs Matt Ibbotson and Andy Trotter also played their part in a memorable victory.

CHESTER put up a determined showing at leaders Luctonians in Midlands One before being edged out 13-10. Tom Foden scored all their points with a try, a conversion and a penalty.
