Kirk pipped but prove they can compete

ORMSKIRK were seconds away from recording their first away win of the season at promotion favourites Widnes on Saturday.

A dramatic final 10 minutes saw Ormskirk snatch a 24-23 lead before Widnes crossed for a try with the last play of the game.

But despite the demoralising result, Kirk’s young side proved they can more than compete with the top sides in the league.

Ormskirk defended valiantly to hang on but they left a gap in their defence which Widnes ruthlessly exploited.

In a disappointing weekend at Green Lane, Ormskirk’s second, third and fourth teams lost to Widnes, Birchfield Park and Blackburn, respectively.

NEXT GAME: Ormskirk v Oswestry, EDF Energy Cup, October 18.
