Park in right direction

DESPITE another defeat, this time at the hands of leaders Westoe at the weekend, there were enough indications that West Park might be close to turning the corner.

There may be no better time to do just that than this coming weekend when the Merseysiders make the journey to fellow strugglers Darlington. A win there would lift Park off the bottom of the North One table and give everyone at the club a much-needed reason to celebrate.

Against a sturdy Westoe side last Saturday Park, with several new signings, showed some physical presence and had no less than almost a third of the starting line from the Southern Hemisphere.

Four Springboks began the game with two sturdy newcomers in the centre Charles Emilie and George Tossell originating from the Johannesburg and Pretoria districts while Fijian Ratu Baleirara started on the replacement bench.

Luck was again not on their side when in the warm up Park’s first choice full back Lee Rosney damaged his neck in the warm up and had to be replaced by Rob Hitchmough at the last minute.

NEXT GAME: Darlington v West Park, North One, Saturday November 1
