Park miss winning chance

WEST PARK, despite their mediocre performance, may have snatched their first North One win of the season had they not squandered two late opportunities in the last five minutes with clear overlaps.

As it was, after a poor game with neither side showing much sparkle, they allowed the home side to grab their first success.

The visitors, despite suffering a late cry off from skipper Mark Williams with a stomach bug, took an early lead when winger Neil Best touched down following a kick and chase. Ryan de la Harpe added the extras before increasing the lead with a penalty.

Darlington, despite a lack of enterprise, scored a converted try from a rolling maul before levelling the scoreline with a penalty before the interval.

West Park began the second period well and took the lead again when centre George Tossel went over for a converted try. Another forward drive from Darlington and a touchdown narrowed the margin. Unfortunately, Park then knocked on under their own posts. From the scrum, Darlington, with another rolling maul, grabbed the winner with a converted try.
