Basketball: Tigers storm to victory over Thunder

THE Tigers got their BBL Championship challenge back on track as they eased past the Worthing Thunder at the Greenbank Academy by 103-67.

Josh Gross was in sparkling form all evening for the hosts, top scoring with 26 points, but was ably assisted by newly crowned BBL player of the month Andre Smith (23) and inspirational play maker Richard Midgley (22).

Coach Tony Garbelotto admitted he was content rather than happy with his side’s performance.

He said: “I thought at times in the first half we looked like a side who hadn’t played together for two weeks.

“We weren’t as good as we could be tonight but I was pleased to get the win especially after the last home result against Worcester.”

Garbelotto also believes that Man of the Match Josh Gross will only get better.

He added: “I was really pleased with Josh tonight.

“He showed what he could do at both ends and now he is over the worst of his injury he can start the show the kind of quality we know he has. He will only get better with more time on the court.”

EVERTON TIGERS 103 (23, 48, 76) (Gross 26, Smith 23, Midgley 22)

WORTHING THUNDER 67 (20, 36, 55) (Ivanovskis 22, Midgley 11, Borgemann 11)
