LIAM RENTON headed West Cheshire AC’s contingent at the second round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League.
The young distance-runner finished second in the Under 13 boys race at Boggart Hole Clough with a time of 12 minutes 43 seconds, just two seconds behind winner Jack Nixon (Stockport).
Liam was supported by clubmates Ryan Jones (17th in 14:46) and Connor Pritchard (26th in 17:14). The trio achieved fifth in the team competition with 43 points.
Alec Beaney continued his good form to secure second place in the U20 junior men's age group and 13th overall in the senior men's event.
He finished in 38 minutes 10 seconds, ahead of Andrew Clague (fourth over-40 man and 35th overall in 40:27), Louis Humphreys (fifth junior and 69th overall in 42:15), Alan Littler (10th junior and 165th overall in 49:07), Dave Hough (ninth over-55 and 169th overall in 49:33), and Tony Thackray (12th over-60 and 216th overall in 62:29).
Alec, Louis and Alan secured West Cheshire top spot in the U20 junior team competition and West Cheshire were 18th in the men's team event.
Karry Broster completed the U15 girls race in 14th with a time of 15:47.
Dave Alexander posted a time of 37 minutes six seconds for 18th position in the men's race at the North Staffs Cross Country League second round, staged at Stafford Common.
He was joined at the event by Mary Radford, who claimed 110th in the ladies race with a time of 33:18.
Eight West Cheshire AC juniors will represent Cheshire at Sunday's Arriva North West Fun In Athletics Competition, being held at Sport City, Manchester.
West Cheshire AC will host the second round of the Chester and Ellesmere Port Schools' Cross Country Race Series, at Cheshire Oaks High School, Ellesmere Port, this Saturday (10am start).
