Shah is expected to revert back to number six again having been restored to number three for the rain-reduced 22- overs match in Bangalore while Luke Wright and Steve Harmison may come into contention for recalls.
He has also confirmed he will help Middlesex’s Champions League ambitions by leaving England’s squad immediately after the final one-day international in Delhi on December 2 – but only if he is not required for England’s Test preparations.
England’s only chance to look at their options for the first Test in Ahmedbad on December 11 is during a three-day warm-up match in Baroda starting on December 5, which clashes with Middlesex’s group games in the Twenty20 tournament.
"I want to play Test cricket, that is my first aim and if I’m not involved in that three-day game then there’s an option for me to go rather than carry the drinks," he said. "That’s the only scenario where I would go and play in the Champions League but if I am selected for the three-day game I’ll play and try and put my name in the hat for the Test match."
England have decided to wait before considering a possible replacement for Ryan Sidebottom, who has been ruled out of the rest of the one-day series with a side strain.
