Sean McGuire: One final Wembley showdown for Ricky Hatton will ensure he won’t look back in anger

WEMBLEY would be a fitting venue for Ricky Hatton’s final fight.

The home of some of the most famous sporting events and moments, he has earned the right to perform there.

His latest victory, the demolition of Paulie Malignaggi, should present him with another huge fight, and of course another huge pay cheque.

His understated, disarming manner outside of the ring and his focus and determination in it makes him a fine sporting role model who deserves the plaudits he is receiving, espeically in the wake of his defeat by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

But he shouldn’t look to go on for too long – he has little left to prove.

Like the music of his belt-carriers Liam and Noel Gallagher, an aging Ricky Hatton will only get more predictable the longer he continues.

He is still, just about, at his peak. He should take another shot at the big fight on the big stage and then step down – before he is knocked down again.
