Rugby Union: Caldy title hopes fading fast

CALDY’S outside hopes of the National Three North title all but disappeared with this defeat at the hands of their Cheshire rivals.

It was still anybody’s game at the halfway stage but the East Cheshire outfit went clear with an excellent third quarter spell.

Matt Lamming touched down in the opening half for Caldy with Gavin Roberts adding the conversion and also kicking two penalties.

Macclesfield scored three tries through Fergus Mulchrone, Simon Coote and John Hardwick plus a conversion by Ross Winney.

Martin Kent and Mulchrone breached the home rearguard after the break with Winney managing one goal and a penalty.

Caldy responded with their best spell which produced two tries for skipper Shaun Woof, the first after good work by Jon Broxson and the second following good build up involving Ollie Cooper and Sam Dickinson.

But the visitors who had the last say with Jonathan Keep scoring.
