Rugby Union: Widnes 30 - Hoylake 29

IT LOOKED doom and gloom for Widnes after 65 minutes when they trailed by 29-10, but there was a dramatic change in fortunes during the last few minutes as the home side fought back to grab a vital two points to maintain their challenge for the South Lancs/Cheshire One league title.

Up until that point, they had looked a distant second best as Hoylake built up a sizeable lead, only for Gareth Riley and two try hero Kevin Leadbetter to inspire a comeback of epic proportions which snatched the game away from them in the dying moments.

Earlier in the piece, the visitors led by 13-0 before Tim Hewlett and full-back Andrew Riley eventually got the Widnes scoreboard moving.
