Aintree Grand National: Coleen Rooney salutes Aintree style as contest winner scoops new car and holiday

COLEEN ROONEY praised Liverpool women for always making the effort for Aintree as she announced the winner of the annual Style contest.

Looking radiant in a pink crimped dress with black ruffled headband and matching black belt and purse, Coleen said: “Everyone makes such an effort with their outfits and we were looking for someone who had made an effort and all our finalists look fantastic. I do plan my outfit in advance but it’s all about the accessories and deciding how to have your hair.”

Samantha Marsh, 19, from Blackpool, narrowly pipped four Merseyside hopefuls to the top prizes of a £25,000 Citroen car, a 10-day Caribbean holiday and a modelling deal with Matalan.

One of the local finalists revealed her stunning turquoise dress cost just £10.

Student nurse Laura Moran, 18, who works at the Royal, said: “I would never have entered.

“it’s only because one of the style spotters told me that I queued up.

“I bought this dress from Bulletproof, in Hardman Street.

“I hung it up with care last night and my mum put my rollers back in today – it’s great to get a second day at the races for free.”
