WIDNES’ lingering hopes of taking the South Lancs Cheshire One league title were ended following this disappointing defeat at the hands of rivals Wirral.
Two converted tries just before the break really knocked the stuffing out of the visitors and after that they never really recovered. They pressed the self-destruct button as Wirral ran away with it the second half.
Mark Wilcox (2), an individual effort from Rob Critchley and one conversion from Kevin Leadbetter were the only bright spots in an otherwise disappointing Widnes display.
