BOTH sides produced plenty of endeavour but mistakes were frequent in this final North Two West League game of the season at Hartsfield.
New Brighton were again forced to field a much changed line-up. The forwards battled bravely but little went right behind the scrum.
Mark Dorrington was due to make his final appearance but was forced to withdraw due to work commitments leaving one to wonder if he will continue to play on next year.
Skipper Kati Tuipulotu in the back-row was always in the thick of the action for the home side and Alan Hesketh had his moments at scrum-half. The Blues actually took the try count 2-1 but paid for conceding penalties.
Wilmslow always looked dangerous in possession and it needed some excellent home defending to keep them out until the 74th minute when they were awarded a somewhat controversial touchdown via Dave Carbery.
Bob McCallum converted in off the bar to added to his three earlier penalties, two in the first period and one on the hour mark.
Tuipulotu forced his way over from a line-out for Brighton on 43 minutes and was in again on 73 minutes but time ran out on them at the end of a disappointing season.
Leigh in their last match fell 22-45 at Altrincham Kersal.
