COMPETITION new boys Rainhill made it two wins out of two in the First Division as they clinched a 35-run victory at home to Leigh.
Their chances looked bleak after they could only muster 103 all out off 36.3 overs as Barry Greenwood (5-63) and Karl Brown (3-31) wreaked havoc.
However, Anthony Wilding then claimed 4-21 as Leigh were dismissed for just 68.
Highfield are the only other club in the division with a 100 per cent record after they won by five wickets at Liverpool.
Opener Andrew Rogers struck 48 but Liverpool were all out for 173 in 55 overs. Steve Peet and Scott Cornish did the early damage with two wickets apiece and Chris Liptrot (5-50) polished off the tail.
Highfield only took 35 overs to reach their target thanks to Michael Farrell (41), James Sprague (38), Andrew Hargreaves (30 not out) and Gary Hughes (46).
Teenage paceman Richard Stanyon was Ainsdale’s hero as grabbed the last Sefton Park wicket with the penultimate ball of the match. Stanyon’s yorker proved too much for tailender Stewart Guy as Sefton were all out for 172 in pursuit of Ainsdale’s 191-9 off 67.2 overs.
Defeat was tough on Sefton skipper Robbie Houghton who took 5-69 and then struck 80 after his team were struggling at 37-4.
Houghton was dismissed by Malcolm Swift who produced a match-winning all-round display. Swift hit 62 and then claimed 7-78 off 27 overs.
Rainford proved far too strong for visitors St Helens.
Darren Tyms (48) and Craig Woods (48) impressed for Saints but no-one else reached double figures as they were bowled out for 141.
