WEST CHESHIRE AC have celebrated a flawless start to their 2009 season.
The seniors squad clinched success in their opening round of the Northern League Division Two West at Warrington, and the Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club’s youngsters secured a home win in their opening match in the Young Athletes League Northern Division One at Ellesmere Port.
Dave McKay earned double success from the men’s hammer (45.45m) and javelin (59.83m), while Robbie Dagnall won the long jump (5.92m).
They received support from Aidan Stoakley who won the B 400m in 53.3s ; B 110m hurdles (18.8) and B pole vault (2-10m) winner Tom Booth; B high jump (1-65m) winner John Manning; B hammer (35.31m) winner Andrew McKay; and B discus (33.93m) winner Richard Stocker.
Nicola Gore captured maximum points in the shot (11.14m) and discus (34.96m), alongside her elder sister Caroline who claimed a B discus win with 23.25m.
Niamh Reilly (33.19m) teamed up with Emily Fisher (30.41m) for success in the javelin, while Danielle Erskine (18.2) and Gemma Hale (20.2) won in the 100m hurdles.
Sian Kelman (5.24m) and Emily Clarke (5.11m) won their respective long jump events, while Victoria Anderson won the B triple jump (9.87m), and Leah Ferrie posted 13.2 for victory in the B 100m, and Shona Valentine won the B 200m in 27.1. Bryony Potter, Shona Valentine, Leah Ferrie, and Rachel Stoakley combined to clock 51.6 seconds to win the 4x100m relay.
FIXTURES this weekend start tomorrow with the Christleton 5k Road Race, near Chester. The Cheshire Track & Field Championships features 65 West Cheshire AC members on Saturday and Sunday at Victoria Park, Warrington. The Salford 5k Road Race is on Saturday and the South Cheshire 20 Miles Road Race starts at Shavington Sports Centre, Crewe, on Sunday.
