Lawrence cruises to victory in Women’s 10k

HELEN LAWRENCE cruised to victory in the 23rd running of the Liverpool Women’s 10k race at Sefton Park.

Lawrence won in 36mins 01secs with Ellesmere Port’s Nicola Bird (36:40) a distant second.

Liverpool Pembroke Sefton’s Kirsty Longley continued her great form as she was third in a new personal best of 37:04.

The Liverpool Harriers duo of Catherine Draper (37:26) and Amy Glen (37:53) were next home.

Some 2,500 runners took part in the 10k and 5k races.

There were also around 150 children involved in the Claire House One Mile Fun Run.

Harriers’ Olivia Perez took the honours in the 5k race after completing the course in 20mins 57secs.

Bridget Marie Waters (21:03) was second with Harriers’ Hannah Skaife (21:23) taking bronze.

Liverpool Harriers dominated the Merseyside County Track & Field Championships at Wavertree.

Other local clubs also grabbed a slice of the glory with all four of St Helens Sutton’s 4x100m relay teams winning gold.

The under-13 quartet of Sally Ashton, Chloe Rigby, Lauren Wilcock and Rachel Woosey recorded 62.7, while Louise Hayes, Vicky Lamb, Liane Bibby and triple throws champion Tricia Spark won the under-15 event in 58.0.

At under-17 level there was victory for Sophie Rigby, Natasha Le Surf, Amy Hughes and Jenny Lamb, along with 800m champion Danny Hughes, John Ashcroft, Jamie White and Jamie Webb.

Liverpool Pembroke Sefton also enjoyed a good day at Wavertree with golds in the under-17s for Adam Thomson (200m), Aimee Hall (100m), Toby Loveridge (1500m).
