McKay leads the charge in West Cheshire haul

DAVE McKAY spearheaded West Cheshire AC’s charge to a haul of 72 medals at the Cheshire County Track and Field Championships held at Warrington.

He captured the spectators’ and his fellow competitors’ attention with an award-winning throw of 66.31m to win the men’s javelin title.

McKay’s perfor-mance merited the Men’s Best Field Performance of the Championship Award.

He was one of 28 gold medal winners from the Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club.

Other purple-vested members to climb to the top of the medal rostrum included double gold medallists Alice McMahon, Alice Jennings, Leah Ferrie, Amy Williams and Nicola Gore.

Alice McMahon claimed an under-15s girls 100m (12.6) and 200m (26.5) double, while Alice Jennings posted 12.3 seconds for the U15s girls 75m hurdles title and a 1.55m clearance for top spot in the high jump.

Leah Ferrie bagged the U17s ladies 100m title (13.1) on the opening day, and added the 200m crown on day two with a time of 26.6 seconds.

Amy Williams won the U13s girls long jump with a leap of 4.60m – just one centimetre short of the age group championship record, and then won the discus title with 15.30m.

And Nicola Gore spun the ladies discus to a winning mark of 36.73m and then found a winning put of 10.87m in the shot.

Chris Goodwin clocked four minutes 21.1 seconds to claim the U17s men’s 1500m title.
