MOORFIELD beat Whitefield in an extraordinary finish to their Bromborough Paints Merseyside and Southport Alliance clash at Court Hey Park.
With five balls of the final over completed Moorfield stood on 125-9 after Whitefield had totalled 126. Steve Price struck the wicket with the last scheduled delivery and Whitefield thought they had won. But the umpire signalled a no ball and the last pair also scampered a run to give Moorfield the verdict by one wicket.
Neil Maher 48 and 5-22 played a key role for the winners. Tarik Afridi claimed 5-27 for the losers.
Mizan Haq undefeated on 135 and Fildus Vincent 5-20 carried Birkenhead St Mary’s to an easy win over Haydock.
Alder and Wavertree played out a disappointing draw. Narender Negi contributed 64 for Wavertree and Ken Highdale an unbeaten 66 for Alder.
Southport Trinity had six runs to spare against Parkfield Liscard. Geoff Thornton made 51 and Kevin Murray took 4-10. Kamran Hussein for the combined side scored 43 and took 7-38.
Norley Hall beat Maritime by six wickets after dismissing the home side for a meagre 20. Wayne Cassidy 6-8 and Gary Molyneux 4-5 did the damage.
Sutton with Jamie Greener hitting 48 and Phil Frost taking 4-47 edged out Prescot & Odyssey by one wickets. Greg Galbraith was 47 not out for the losers and Trevor Fabien finished with 5-46.
