THERE were some shock results in the second round of the Chapel Press Cheshire County League’s popular Fred Graham Twenty20 competition, including defeats for holders Alderley Edge and current premiership leaders Bowdon.
Alderley Edge crashed out in front of a large Sunday crowd at Macclesfield, where they were scuppered by a second-wicket partnership worth 155 between Macclesfield’s Khalid Sawas (93) and Tom Parfett (60), both not out. Bowdon paid the penalty for fielding a weakened team at Didsbury, losing by eight wickets after mustering only 97-4.
Another surprise was the defeat of premier leaguers Nantwich at Tattenhall by six wickets. Tattenhall’s talented Indian batsman Madhur Sethlia scored a match-winning 48.
Widnes won by the narrow margin of two wickets chasing 118 at Chester Boughton Hall, 17-year-old Andy Dickers scoring a priceless 55.
In a Wirral derby at Mill Hill Road, Irby went out to Oxton by eight wickets, Chris Davies scoring 75 for the winners.
In another Wirral clash, Neston beat Upton by six wickets at Parkgate, an unbeaten 59 by teenager David Hurst proving the difference.
