The Bradford utility forward made a spectacular entrance onto the international stage in 2007, scoring on a fairytale debut and playing a key role in Great Britain’s 3-0 Test series whitewash of New Zealand.
Then just 18, Burgess looked certain to become the mainstay of the England pack for years to come but he missed last year’s World Cup because of a shoulder injury.
“I was absolutely devastated to miss out on such a big series and such a big occasion,” he said. “I was really gutted but I’m over that now.
“I didn’t play too long against the French last year so you could say it’s been a year and a half since I’ve played for England.
“I’m looking forward to establishing myself back on the international scene.”
After being the “baby” of the side in 2007, Burgess now finds himself cast in the role of senior player alongside teenagers Richie Myler and Joe Westerman in a youthful squad to face the French.
“I’m quite happy to pass on the title of being the youngest,” he said.
Having 18 and 19-year-olds in the squad is fantastic for England.”
SALFORD have revealed forward Rob Parker suffered a fractured skull in a freak accident during the 34-18 defeat at Wigan on Friday. The second rower sustained the injury in a collision with the elbow of team-mate Jordan Turner.
