Athletics: Usain Bolt set for Euro meeting

USAIN BOLT will begin his European track season today by competing over 100 metres at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava.

Bolt is no stranger to the Czech Republic venue and thrilled the stadium last June with a victory over 200m, his favourite event, in a time of 19.83seconds.

Since then the 22-year-old has produced a string of performances, including his Olympic 100m and 200m double.

He will contest the shorter distance today in Ostrava, where he will be hoping the conditions are more favourable than at the rainswept Toronto meeting last week, where he was slowed to a time of 10.00secs.

Should that be the case, and given the fact the Ostrava track is fast, he could challenge the meeting record of 9.85sec, which Jamaican compatriot Asafa Powell set four years ago.
