SIAN KELMAN has been crowned a North of England Women’s champion.
The West Cheshire AC member claimed the under-20s women’s long jump title with 5.23m at the Northern Athletics Championships.
Kelman, who lives in Chester, was joined at the event by Ellesmere Port-based David McKay who secured fourth place in the men’s javelin event with a throw of 65.88m.
Aidan Stoakley (11.30) and Stephen Jones (11.70) headed West Cheshire AC’s charge with an under-17s men’s 100m double success at the fourth round of the Young Athletes Track and Field League at Wigan.
Richard Farley (2:10.7) and Connor Arden (2:25.5) teamed up for victories in the U17s men’s 800m, while Michael Williams (38.21m) and Sam Rimmer (23.42m) secured maximum points from the U17s men’s javelin.
Ryan Jones (2:24.2) and Michael Bailiff (2:28.5) combined for under-15s boys 800m victories alongside hammer-throwing winners Tom Kellett (27.20m) and Yousef Khalifa (16.99m), pole vault winner Callam Benson (1.90m), and Jonathan Fraser-Cox who scored points in discus, 1,500m, and 80m hurdles.
Matthew Pagan (29.0) and Chris Harrop (30.2) delivered U13s boys 200m victories, supported by Daniel Vickers (second in B 100m), high jump winner Alex Kirk (1.38m), Josh Bate (second in B 800m), Mark Hearn (second in B 1500m), and 75m hurdles winner James McMahon.
Sam Galley (12.7 and 26.3) and Leah Ferrie (12.8 and 25.9) claimed an U17s ladies 100m and 200m sprint double, and Leah added a decisive 300m win (42.1).
Cheshire finished runners-up in the junior and inter girls competitions at the Mason Trophy Inter-Counties Schools’ Championships in Birmingham, while Cheshire’s inter boys finished fifth and Cheshire’s junior boys finished sixth.
