BOWDON host a Hyde team boasting a new Cheshire batting record-holder when they resume their bid for ECB premiership honours in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League at South Downs road tomorrow.
The man of the moment is 19-year-old Chris Tipper who last Sunday hit a Minor Counties record 219 runs for Cheshire against Herefordshire at Nantwich in a game which was ultimately drawn due to rain.
Still smarting from their dismissal for 48 at Oulton Park last week-end, Bowdon lead the table by 18 runs and have Lancashire’s Gareth Cross back in their line-up.
Second-placed Oulton Park visit Oxton, while Nantwich, also well in the title frame, host Alderley Edge with their former New Zealand Test star Lou Vincent keen to continue a run which has brought him three centuries in a month.
Chester Boughton Hall’s Warren Goodwin will be aiming to increase his lead as the league’s top-run scorer (682) when his side travel to Didsbury.
Now the league’s only unbeaten team, Bramhall take an 11 points lead at the top of Division One to Irby, who have lost five of their last seven games after a cracking start to the season.
Christleton, whose Sri Lankan opener Iroshan de Silva is the division’s top run-scorer with 627, lie second and face a tricky task at Grappenhall.
In Division Two, Bollington are enjoying a remarkable run with 10 wins in 11 starts and currently top the table by 40 points before tomorrow’s game at Birkenhead Park.
Grappenhall included two retired Test stars in Neil Fairbrother (England) and Wasim Akram (Pakistan) when they beat Toft in a League Over 40s match on Wednesday.
