Graham Bolton hoping Wigan can back to winning ways in the Liverpool Competition

LESS than two months ago Wigan appeared to be coasting towards a return to the top flight of the Business Assistance Liverpool Competition.

Even then though, Bull Hey skipper Graham Bolton was warning his players that it would not always be that easy and that they would need to keep playing decent cricket.

To Bolton’s disappointment, events have proved him right. Nine wins in 10 games have been followed by just one victory in the next eight, and a 50-point lead has been lost.

Last Saturday Wigan were overtaken by Orrell Red Triangle.

Suddenly the one-horse race is a dash for the line. Bolton is disappointed, but rational about his team’s decline. “It’s been a struggle for us and things have got a little tougher,” he says. “Early in the season we had momentum and we caught everything. In the past couple of months sides have become more difficult to beat.”

Tomorrow they visit bottom of the table St Helens Recs and this is a key time for Bolton and his team-mates to get back to winning ways.
