ALICE JENNINGS and Olivia Montez-Brown starred for Cheshire at the English Schools’ Track and Field Combined Events Finals at Bedford.
The two West Cheshire AC members acquitted themselves well in the junior girls pentathlon among the best multi-eventers in the country.
Alice finished 11th in the junior girls pentathlon with 2,691 points.
Olivia finished 20th with a score of 2,609 points.
Chris Goodwin raced to top spot in the under-20s junior men’s category at the Sutton Six 10k Road Race.
The West Cheshire AC distance-running ace covered the 10km course around Guilden Sutton, near Chester, in a time of 39 minutes eight seconds.
He was joined at the event by West Cheshire AC’s Andrew Clague who finished 13th overall and second in the over 40 men’s age group in a time of 35:51, and Richard Batterham who covered the distance in 43:54 for 102nd position.
Nick Jones, of Spectrum Striders, won the race in a time of 31:39, well clear of second placed Damian Nicholls (Wilmslow) in 32:40, and Wilmslow’s Jim Pendrill, who was third in 33:45.
Nicola Bird, of Ellesmere Port Running Club, won the ladies race title after clocking 37:41 for 30th position overall.
Kristy Redman was second lady in 39:45, and Vale Royal AC’s Gemma Barnett finished third with a time of 40:28.
JEFF McQUEEN was West Cheshire AC’s first man home at the third round of the Summer Multi-Terrain League at Thurstaston.
Jeff completed the 4.9 miles in a time of 30:17, ahead of Andrew Clague (20th in 31:22)
Andrew Clague was fourth overall in the over-40 age group after three of the four rounds, and Paul Price was in third spot in the over-50 age category after three rounds.
And Brian Hastings was lying in fifth position after the race at Thurstaston, just 10 points adrift of second place.
The first round of the North Wales Cross Country League takes place on Saturday, at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.
