BIRKENHEAD held their breath as a last kick drop goal attempt by the Tigers just missed the target.
It would have been a travesty had the visitors lost for they dominated this clash.
They were not helped by injuries to Chris Tyms and Colin Campbell but the replacements Christian Jones and Ryan Stead did well with Stead going close to marking his debut with a try. The start was delayed with some Sheffield players held up in a traffic jam but when play did get under way Park quickly took the initiative. Freeman Payne went in for an interception try after fifteen minutes with David Hall converting.
Tim Outram replied with a penalty for the Tigers but before the break good work by Tony Handley and Gavin Scott sent Andy Trotter away on a forty metres dash to the line.
Park could not add to their tally and it was game on when John Buchanan crossed for the home outfit with Outram converting at the start of the final quarter.
