LSH outplayed by Park pack

LIVERPOOL ST HELENS came off second best in a dour and uninspiring North One West clash at Broughton Park.

Although thoroughly outplayed by a hefty Broughton Park pack they did not suffer from lack of possession. Unfortunately, despite huge effort and endeavour, they failed to turn this into points.

After Greg Smith had slotted an early penalty LSH went behind on 13 minutes when a defensive error led to centre Ben Wilson crossing for a try.

Ronan O’Brien added a penalty for Park with Smith replying with one for LSH to leave the home side with a narrow 8-6 lead at half-time.

O’Brien extended the lead with a further penalty after 52 minutes.

Despite strong running from Paul Bamber, John Pape and Steve Ormesher, LSH failed to breach a well organised and strong defence and as the light faded and the rain swept in, they knew that this was not to be their day.
