Scotland’s Moray Low on a high as his team defeats Fiji at Murrayfield

MORAY LOW is prepared to spend his free time this week replying to congratulatory text messages after marking his first start for Scotland with a man-of-the-match display against Fiji.

Glasgow tighthead Low was one of a handful of stand-out performers in Saturday’s opening autumn international at Murrayfield.

So dominant was the 24-year-old at scrum time, the tourists were forced to replace loosehead Alefoso Yalayalatabua during the interval.

And once Low switched on his phone after the 23-10 victory, he was inundated by a flood of messages from family and friends.

“It’s not stopped buzzing,” he said, pointing to his mobile.

“A lot of people were really happy on the text messages, which I was really proud to receive. I need to try to text them all back later this week as well!”

Low, who turns 25 during the final autumn Test on Saturday week, earned his first two Test caps as a replacement during the RBS 6 Nations.

But those cameos had nothing on the feeling of starting an international for the first time.

“Obviously, I had to keep focused on the job in hand but it was really emotional running out and playing,” he said.

“When you pull on the jersey and start, it’s just fantastic.”

He added: “I felt I started well, got hands on the ball early and I was happy enough with the set piece.

“I had the family there to watch as well and was really pleased to go out there and play the full 80.”

Low also paid tribute to new scrum coach Massimo Cuttita and head coach Andy Robinson, who was able to celebrate his first game in charge with a solid, if unspectacular, win.

He said: “I’ve had a good pre-season, working hard and now have that self-belief and confidence to go out there and to put in the work rate and make the sacrifices, which paid off in the end.

“It just gives me an extra lift now to push on and play more games for Scotland.”
