WEST PARK, despite matching their Yorkshire hosts among the backs at times, found their opponents pack too big and experienced to handle.
Consequently in the torrential wind and rain they were denied possession for much of the time and it was no surprise that they went 20 points down in as many minutes.
West Park were guaranteed a stern task blooding a front row that had an average age of 21 and competing with two locks that each stood at 6ft4in and 6ft7in.
If the clouds thinned for a moment in the first period it was when centre Steve Briers weaved past five opponents to score a great try which Warren Hunt converted. Hunt was again on target in the second half.
Neil Hunt’s try in the corner reduced the deficit further. But to add to Park’s woes they lost Mark Williams with a recurrence of a recent injury.
Scrum-half Chris Lane also departed the fray with a badly cut mouth.
