THIS was most definitely not a game for the connoisseur as beforehand both sides were desperate for the points – but yet again Waterloo fell short conceding 21 points in the final quarter.
A break by Darren Wilson put pressure on the Waterloo line but despite a great defensive effort with Carl Nolan sin-binned, Jordan Pearson was driven over, Alex Zavallis-Roebuck adding the conversion.
A raking kick by Adam Anderson took play into the PGH ‘22’ where good support play got Sean Gibney over. Zavallis-Roebuck slotted a penalty but a held-up pass by Anderson put James O’Brien under the posts, the centre adding the conversion to give his side the lead.
In the final play of the half, PGH drove over from a five metre scrum Dominic Moon claiming the touchdown, Zavallis-Roebuck again successful with the extras.
In the second period with Wayne Steele next to the sin bin, the Waterloo pack took advantage as Nolan was driven over to level matters.
The visitors’ response was immediate as Moon went under the posts, the conversion affording a 24-17 advantage. Two penalties from Zavallis-Roebuck extended the lead and as the hosts faded, Tom Hughes brought up the bonus try with Zavallis-Roebuck adding a fourth penalty.
