Meanwhile, new Wigan coach Michael Maguire’s first match in charge of the Warriors will be against St Helens after the clubs agreed to revive their traditional Christmas fixture.
The neighbours will clash at Knowsley Road, on Sunday, December 27 in the first pre-season friendly for both clubs – fixtures for the new Super League season will be published tomorrow.
Maguire, who took charge of the start of pre-season training today, said: “We have a tough pre-season training schedule planned but we are also looking forward to getting some game action.
“The match against St Helens will give me the opportunity to see the players in competitive action for the first time and will be a good physical test for the boys.
“I’ve already been told about the rivalry between the two clubs.”
Saints coach Mick Potter said: “I know this fixture was a traditional meeting between the two sides in the past. We will be fielding a blend of youth and some more experienced players.”
