Birkenhead Park gear up for their semi-final clash

INTERNATIONAL matches supply the main rugby union interest tomorrow on what is nearly a league free Saturday.

LSH are one of the exceptions as they entertain Burnage in North One West League in a clash re-arranged from last weekend when their ground was waterlogged.

Time could have gone in favour of LSH who had one or two walking wounded ahead of last Saturday.

Birkenhead Park face a Cheshire Cup semi-final at home to Lymm. The other semi between holders Macclesfield and the Sale Development XV is due to be played this evening.

Birkenhead will not be able to take anything for granted against a Lymm side sitting at the head of North One West League with just one reverse to date.

The Wirral club looking for a final place for the third successive season will expect to bounce back after a narrow defeat at Rochdale in a game played under appalling conditions. New signing Adam Couples from Ballymena who is studying at John Moores University could get a first start for Park.

New Brighton were due at Northwich in the semi-final of the Cheshire Senior Vase but the clubs have opted to count their league meeting in January as a double header.

So it will be a free weekend for the Blues along with such as Caldy, Chester, Waterloo and West Park. Widnes hope their good home form holds as they entertain Sale in the Intermediate Cup.

The latest preliminary matches in the Cheshire Plate are also scheduled for tomorrow.

FIXTURES: TOMORROW (2.15pm): North One West: LSH v Burnage. Intermediate Cup: Widnes v Sale. Cheshire Cup: Birkenhead Park v Lymm. Cheshire Plate: Ellesmere Port v Congleton, Prenton v Port Sunlight, Parkonians v Helsby.
