Rugby Union: Waterloo 12-18 Kendal

THIS was a game Waterloo could and should have won.

But with numbers on the pitch reduced due to three players being shown a yellow card allowing the visitors to score 13 points during their absence, Kendal returned up the M6 with four points to the home side’s one.

Waterloo took the lead with a try from Carl Nolan from a catch and drive close to the Kendal line. Kendal replied with a try from Ian Voortman and two Mark Ireland penalties.but with both Nolan

and Jason Harrison dispatched to the sin bin a super defensive

effort by the home side confined the visitors to a single

penalty from Mark Ireland.

Just as they thought they had held the score, Waterloo lost

Njike Tchakoute to the sin bin and, following a second penalty

from Ireland, Kendal later added a converted five-pointer via John Ladell before Loo scored a try through James O’Brien.. took full advantage with a try from John

Ladell, Ireland successful with the conversion.

In the second half Kendal lost Voortman to the sin bin and

immediately Waterloo exploited his absence, James O’Brien

searing through centre field for a try converted by Liam Reeve.

The score lifted the Merseysiders who had the better of the

second period although they were unable to break through the

Kendal defence.
