Skipper hopes performance will light up season

THE Christmas spirit was all around Moss Lane last Saturday as LSH’s first half performance against New Brighton in North One West sparkled brighter than Ray French’s bargain basement Christmas tree lights.

Fortified by the president’s annual Christmas dinner, the Moss Lane faithful saw a performance that will hopefully put them back on track following the previous week’s loss to Wilmslow.

That’s a view shared by skipper Phil Kearns.

He said: “We were much better organised. What we need to do now is put another successful run together.”

The LSH number eight, now in his fourth year as leader, is looking forward to this week’s crucial encounter at Northwich.

He added: “The loss earlier this season at Moss Lane (24-16) hit us hard and with this being the last game before the seasonal break we will be going all out to secure the win.”

Martin Jones introduced a new wing formation last week with the recalled Dave Bailey and the newcomer Chris Harvey. Both did well, as did props Lee Nevitt and Simon Griffiths performing alongside the ever consistent Phil Battersby.

With Jan Lourens still absent and James Cashman and Matt Cunliffe still on the injured list, more of the same will be required this weekend.
