Birkenhead Park Rugby Club’s players left frozen out of action as winter continues to bite hard

BIRKENHEAD Park face another week of uncertainty before knowing if they can return to action this Saturday when Cleckheaton are the scheduled visitors to the Upper Park in National Three North.

Along with the rest of the league programme, Park's derby at Chester was postponed last Saturday with the Hare Lane pitch frozen solid underneath a good few inches of snow. Prospects are a little better for this week but it will be touch and go if the Cleckheaton match is to take place.

Park chairman Greg Casey said: “The snow is beginning to melt but the pitch is still frozen and the worry is that the temperature will not increase sufficiently to allow the deep frost to thaw. We could also face water-logging if the surface snow melts.”

PARK have announced a provisional match squad for the weekend but final selection will be made after this week's indoor training.
