THE game of the day in National Two North sees third placed Caldy RUFC entertain the runaway leaders of the division Loughborough Students who, following their success against Harrogate last weekend, have a 12 point advantage over the Paton Field outfit.
Caldy played Loughborough away on October 3 and against the odds managed to secure a 36 points to eight victory but since that day Loughborough have been unbeaten in an impressive series of victories against the strongest teams in the league.
With almost half of the season gone Director of Rugby Matt Holt said: “We are reasonably happy with the first half of the season sitting in third place. We are looking to finish the second half of the season with more consistency than the first. Our three losses have been disappointing as they could so easily have been wins and we want to transfer our superb away form to our home record which to date has been below par and a bit of a mystery”
Holt added: “This weekend’s game is the biggest test of the season. We have not been able to play since December 12 due to the poor weather whereas Loughborough have managed two games in recent weeks. Both sides will have some changes from our earlier meeting and it all bodes well for an exciting match.”
“Despite the cold snap, we have continued to train hard at a local gym and last weekend managed an outdoor session on the beach at West Kirby, we will be ready for this test.”
This weekend is a special weekend for Caldy RUFC as the club is hosting a luncheon in conjunction with Help for Heroes for serving soldiers on Saturday followed by the match between Caldy and Loughborough Students at 2.15pm. Serving members of the forces will receive free admission at Caldy games up to and including the Sevens event in May
Shaun Woof said: “This is a big day for Caldy Rugby Club both on the field and off the field. The Help for Heroes Charity does a superb job and it has not escaped us as players, the excellent job that all of our service men and women do. I am sure that the lads will do their utmost to put on a performance worthy of our guests and hopefully assist in generating some funds for the worthy cause.”
