FORTY NINE points from Ross Winney contributed to the annihilation and humiliation of Waterloo at Blundellsands.
Right from the start it was clear that Macclesfield, coached by former Waterloo and St Helens’ RL star Andy Northey, were not likely to bask lazily in the sunshine.
In fact within quarter of an hour the ambitious Cheshire outfit had opened up a commanding 17 point lead and were 45-7 ahead at the interval despite Waterloo full-back James O’Brien sneaking in for the first of his brace of converted tries.
In the second period there was no hint that Waterloo’s youthful outfit could provide a fightback. With a pack averaging no more than 20 years, the Merseysiders continued to be swept aside.
A total of 15 tries conceded told its own story and director of rugby Steve Moore, away in Dubai will certainly realise he has some pieces to pick up when he returns.
