Chester to meet authorities to discuss progress

SENIOR decision makers from troubled Chester City, plus former managing director Bob Gray, will meet representatives of the Football authorities in Manchester today and spell out the progress the club have made since their High Court appearance last week.

A winding-up petition from HM Revenue and Customs was adjourned until March 10, but the Football Association, the Conference, and the Football League are all concerned about the current goings on at the Deva Stadium, with the bulk of players and staff wages still remaining unpaid, and other invoices apparently piling up in the club’s in tray.

Today, the club’s owners and hierarchy will be asked for undertakings that they can complete their scheduled Conference fixtures, and there will also be questions about the progress of the sale of Chester City.

The club was put on the market last week for £1, with the purchaser being required to take on all the clubs debts which have accrued since Chester City (2004) Limited became active in May 2009.

The sale of the club is being overseen by Manchester-based legal company Brabners, however it is unclear if any firm offers have been lodged.

To add to City’s woes, reports in the midlands last night indicated that left sided midfield player Rhys Meynell has given City 14 days notice to cancel his contract.

As exclusively reported in yesterday’s Daily Post, Meynell is expected to link up with his former manager Steve Burr at Kidderminster Harriers when his notice of cancellation expires.

A City player, who doesn’t wish to be named, contacted the Daily Post last night stating that another of City’s dwindling senior squad had also exercised his rights and presented the club with a 14 day cancellation of contract request.

Chester have been forced to field a number of youth team players in recent weeks, as their dwindling number of senior colleagues left the Deva Stadium after finding paid employment with other clubs.

Meanwhile, Chester are expected to start selling tickets for the forthcoming derby match against neighbours Wrexham in the next day or so.

A quantity of tickets will also be sent the Racecourse for sale to Wrexham supporters.

The match will be played at the Deva Stadium on Sunday, February 14 (kick off 12pm).
