Ex-Wigan Warriors coach Brian Noble tips old club for the top

WIDNES have completed deals for three of Wigan’s promising fringe players.

Winger Shaun Ainscough, 20, who burst onto the scene with 17 tries in 12 appearances for the Warriors last season, joins the Vikings as part of their dual registration quota for 2010, together with 19-year-old loose forward Liam Farrell.

Also making the move to the Stobart Stadium is Ben Davies, a 20-year-old prop, who joins the Vikings on a three-month loan.

Widnes sporting director and former Wigan prop Terry O’Connor said: “All three of these lads are the type of quality British players we are looking to see play and nurture here at the Vikings.

“This arrangement between the clubs will strengthen the Vikings’ 2010 playing squad and allow the talented young Wigan players to experience some regular senior first team football.”

Wigan chairman Ian Lenegan said: “The deal is good for the individual players, for the Wigan club and for Widnes whom we hope to see in Super League in the future.

“The dual registrations mean either Shaun or Liam can return intermittently to play for Wigan at any time based upon form or injuries and the rest of the time, like Ben, get senior rugby experience with Widnes.”

Meanwhile, Widnes will be without Thomas Coyle for their Northern Rail Cup tie at Batley on Sunday (2pm) after lost his appeal against the one-match ban he received for being sent off in the pre-season friendly against Salford.
