COACH Tony Smith saluted five-try winger Chris Riley after Warrington’s cavalier style earned them a 58-0 engage Super League romp over Harlequins.
Riley became the first Warrington player to score five touchdowns in a Super League match as Harlequins were on the receiving end of an 11-try blitz.
There was joy too for Adrian Morley who celebrated the arrival of his second child by leading his side to a mesmerising victory.
The Wolves skipper had a sleepless night with partner Clare giving birth to a daughter in the early hours of yesterday morning; but he insisted on playing for Warrington in their first match of the 2010 season.
Quins thrashed Warrington 60-8 at the Twickenham Stoop in Smith’s second match in charge of the Wolves last March, but there was never any chance of a repeat.
Smith said of Riley: “A few were served up on a silver platter but a winger has to be there and he showed good speed on a couple of occasions.
“It’s quite a feat to score five tries in any match but the vision and execution of his try from Lee Briers’s kick straight from a scrum was superb and obviously well rehearsed on the training pitch.”
Smith also praised skipper Morley and said: “Mozza only had an hour’s sleep but there was no risk in playing him.
“I knew he’d be up for it and all the three front rowers – Mozza, Garreth Carvell and Paul Wood – played well. The players were as pleased with the nil against them as the positive scoreline. We played some very nice rugby league.”
