LAST weekend was a busy one for two of Liverpool St Helens’ rising stars, Jamie Clare and Matt Griffiths.
After helping LSH to a convincing 27-6 win over Sandbach in North One West on Saturday the two 18-year-olds then made their Lancashire County under-20 debuts at Penrith on Sunday.
It was a case of role reversal, however, as Widnes-born Clare started at open side flanker against Sandbach on Saturday, with St Helens teenager Griffiths coming off the bench for only his second full LSH appearance
In the 39-9 win over Cumbria, ex-Rainford High School student Griffiths started in the second-row, while Clare, educated at Wade Deacon High School, came off the bench into the back-row.
LSH director of rugby Martin Jones was full of praise for both youngsters.
“They both deserve county recognition” he said. “They have bags of ability, work hard and are very exciting prospects.”
Both players should feature in the LSH squad preparing for the visit of Aspatria to Moss Lane on Saturday.
